Portraits

In all honesty, when artists claim to have captured the soul of their subject in a photograph, it makes me cringe. It presupposes a rather uncomfortably complete familiarity and knowledge of their subject. And that too, after say a few weeks or months of close proximity with the person. And here I am, hardly knowing even myself, after having lived with me for over fifty five years.

Portraits, for me, are momentary glimpses into the lives of my subjects. Sometimes they are powerful…sometimes sensitive…and always honest…hopefully.
